Visit the schools on behalf of the bishop
Offer advice on issues related to ethos and worship in Catholic Schools, ensuring Jesus is at the centre of all their endeavours
Meet with and encourage the Heads of Departments and Religious Education teachers and help them to develop and evaluate their work
Support and encourage the development of Catholic Leadership in schools
Facilitate the induction of beginning teachers
Facilitate annual In-Service days for Religious Education Heads of Department/Teachers
Ensure the appropriate Religious Education syllabus is being delivered and supported across all key stages.
Ensure schools are aware of current RSE Guidelines and provide support and resources for the implementation of RSE as a whole school endeavour
Provide opportunities/resources for the development of the prayer life of schools
Devise and supply suitable resource materials to assist schools in their work
Increase the networking and sharing of good practice between diocesan schools
Provide opportunities for schools to come together to pray and celebrate their ethos
Offer support and advice in the provision of Religious Education and catechesis for students with learning difficulties
Work with the Diocesan Advisor for Primary Schools and the Diocesan Sacramental Preparation Team to provide online and face to face preparation for parishes, schools and families
Participate in the development of joint ventures with advisors in other dioceses
Engage and work with: Northern Diocesan Advisors, National Association of Post Primary Diocesan Advisors and Catholic Schools Trustee Service
Liaise as appropriate with outside agencies
Provide pastoral support to principals and teachers
Provide opportunities for school staff to participate in retreats and days of reflection and Diocesan Religious Education Conferences
Encourage and facilitate the establishment of links between school, home and parish
Facilitate retreats for young people
Support priests in their role as school chaplain
Fundraise for the Diocesan Catechetical Centre
Ensure that the post primary sections of the DDCC website supports the work of the head of department/staff
Actively use social media to support the aims of the Catechetical Centre
Provide support to the Derry Diocesan Advisor in Religious Education – Primary and the Diocesan Youth Department
Engage in on-going professional and personal formation and development
Perform other duties as may be allocated to you provided such duties are within your reasonable capabilities and qualifications.
Other reasonable duties which from time to time the Centre Director or Diocesan Advisors may request.
