The Ulster Orchestra, along with their partners Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, Shankill Children’s Zone and Queen's University Innovation Zones, are seeking an experienced and qualified music facilitator to be part of our flagship Crescendo Project. The partners’ vision is to improve outcomes for children through music.

JOB DETAILS

Job Title:  Crescendo Facilitator – Special Educational Needs

Reporting To: Head of Community Engagement and Grants, Learning and Community Engagement Programme Manager, UO Animateur (as relevant)

Type of Post: Worker Status

Payment: £42.85 per workshop

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in music, music performance and/ or music teaching or equivalent work experience in group facilitating
  • Demonstrable flexibility of approach to learning, and an ability to motivate learners of varying abilities
  • Demonstrable experience of leading or co-leading group workshops or lessons in a group music tuition context with people with Special Educational Needs
  • Flexibility in terms of working hours
  • Demonstrable passion for teaching music with people with Special Educational Needs, and ability to adapt to each pupil’s needs

Desirable Criteria:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a wider team
  • Ability and experience of working with groups of children across senior Key Stage One and Key Stage Two (7-11 years)
  • Demonstrable experience of leading or co-leading group workshops or lessons in a group music tuition context with children with Special Educational Needs
  • Awareness of the primary school curriculum in Northern Ireland including social and emotional learning
  • Experience of adapting the music curriculum in Northern Ireland for students with Special Educational Needs within a framework of an inclusive approach

General:

  • Availability to deliver workshops on a weekly basis within the school term from September 2025 to early June 2026.
  • Facilitators will be subject to the relevant Access NI police check procedures and must adhere to the Orchestra’s Safeguarding, Health and Safety and other relevant policies in all aspects of their work.
