We are recruiting Volunteers to help us conserve the natural beauty of the Faughan Valley which is an enchanting area of ecological signficance just outside Derry/Londonderry.

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading conservation charity, caring for the long term management and conservation of woods in the Faughan Valley. We are looking for locally based Conservation Volunteers to get involved with all or some of the following tasks :

o Woodland maintenance
o Tree planting
o Invasive species control
o Gorse control
o Surveys (wildlife, wildflower, tree and visitor)
o Hedge laying and maintenance
o Scrub clearance
o Pond creation and maintenance
o Wildflower seed collection
o Litter picking
o Wildflower meadow creation and maintenance
o Path maintenance

The Faughan Valley runs from the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains along the beautiful River Faughan to the outskirts of Derry, Londonderry, covering some 80 square miles.  Pockets of precious ancient woodland – a habitat even rarer in Northern Ireland than elsewhere in the UK – have been the inspiration for us to build a project around their protection.

Volunteers help conserve the natural beauty of the Faughan Valley by assisting the Faughan Valley project team with the practical management of the landscape with varied tasks from woodlands in Killaloo to farmland in Kilcreen.

This role also supports our Heritage Lottery Funded Project.
