Purpose of the role
The Church and Community Manager leads the Church & Community sub-team within the wider Fundraising & Supporter Engagement Team. You will lead on developing Christian Aid Ireland’s strategy on community fundraising and church engagement, which feeds into the organisational strategy, Stronger Together.
You will report to the Head of Fundraising & Supporter Engagement, working closely together to build Christian Aid Ireland’s reputation as the ‘go-to’ organisation for churches desiring to have a global impact, to develop ways for churches and our team of voluntary church representatives to take action in response to poverty and injustice, to deepen our relationships with our sponsoring churches and to identify opportunities to build partnerships within Christian networks and spaces.
You will provide inspirational leadership and effective management of five direct reports working across Ireland, as well as colleagues and volunteers. You will work closely and collaboratively with other members of the Christian Aid Ireland team in order to ensure maximised income throughout the year, and particularly during ‘key moment appeals’ and with colleagues in the Fundraising & Supporter Engagement Team of Christian Aid in GB.
You will be data driven, using evidence from surveys and our database, Microsoft Dynamics, and other analysis tools, to inform decision making and strategy development.
You will lead on Christian Aid Ireland’s Global Citizenship Education strategy, developing plans, analysis and implementation to further these aims.
The Church and Community team engage with churches, campaigners, supporters, volunteer networks and others across Ireland to empower an effective response to poverty, and to build Christian Aid Ireland’s profile.
Essential skills:
- Experience of leading, managing, supporting and motivating volunteers and staff in church and / or business contexts.
- Proven experience of raising funds through church engagement and partnerships.
- Ability to lead and work collaboratively with colleagues across distances, maintaining vision and energy and translating that vision into practical work plans.
- Sound knowledge of: churches and church networks in Ireland, theology (particularly in relation to issues pertaining to Christian Aid’s work), of global development issues, of events management, of fundraising practice and volunteer management.
- Excellent verbal and written presentation skills with an ability to relate to diverse audiences.
- Experience of working with churches, ecumenical movements and church-goes, of preaching and leading worship creatively.
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and to travel throughout the region and, on occasion, internationally.
- Car driver with full license.
