This is an exciting time for Christian Aid Ireland; within the last two years we have developed our own Programme Strategy and taken the global lead for Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution, one of Christian Aid’s Strategic Change Objectives.
Our work is underpinned by a Christian conviction of the humanitarian obligation to work with people of all faiths and none. We are seeking someone for the role of Chair who shares our values and our ambition to end poverty, and who will use her/his senior leadership experience, international perspective and faith to lead the Board, support the CEO and play a key role in engaging our broad range of stakeholders. This all Ireland role is an exciting challenge and an opportunity to help drive the performance of the whole Board and ensure Christian Aid Ireland’s values are upheld.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
• The Chair is appointed for a 4-year term and is eligible for one further 4-year term after that.
•The role is unpaid/voluntary but reasonable expenses incurred whilst fulfilling the duties of the role will be reimbursed.
• There are 4 board meetings per year, plus attendance at the AGM and an annual 2-day residential meeting. The Chair attends meetings of the Income, Finance, Risk and Audit Committee and the Nominations and Board Governance Committee.
• The Chair also has regular 121s with the CEO and represents Ireland on the Christian Aid Board based in London which has 5 meetings and 1 residential per year.
•The role requires some occasional international travel and attendance at key Christian Aid Ireland events.
