Politics and power is changing. And so are we. We’re looking for an experienced campaigning leader with a track record of winning and innovating. Working with elected student leaders, you’ll lead the reinvention of NUS’ campaigning practice in Northern Ireland. You’ll have the skill and drive to build a modern mass-engagement movement of students supported by a far reaching digital strategy and a ground force of organized student activists. You’ll also shape the political agenda itself, identifying key issues and generating transformational solutions that sit at the heart of our campaigning. You’ll be someone able to influence at a personal level as well as at societal level.

This is a role overseeing NUS’ campaigning, press, communications and influencing in Northern Ireland. NUS works across a wide range of issues and our priorities are set by students via our democracy. You’ll be working on further and higher education matters for sure as well as student welfare issues like housing, healthcare, and mental wellbeing. You’ll also be working on social policy issues including climate change and liberation for women, black students, LGBT+ students, trans students and disabled students.

You'll be working closely with representatives in Stormont, the Northern Irish Executive, public sector bodies and civil servants. NUS is a confederation of 600 students’ unions representing over 7m students and apprentices across Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. In Northern Ireland, there are 11 students’ unions representing more than 200,000 students. We’re 98 years old and are looking forward to celebrating our centenary having successfully established ourselves at the cutting edge of social change. The student movement is fast-paced and sometimes challenging, but we’re also a big family who support each other.

We aim to practice what we preach so we’re happy to offer a flexible person-centered working environment with a great benefits package.

This role is available primarily at our office in Belfast. We’ll also consider applicants wishing to work as home workers.

We see anti-oppression as central to our mission. Education isn’t working unless it’s working for everyone in our society. We’re trans inclusive without exception. And we welcome individuals who are up for taking active responsibility for their own ongoing learning on liberation, equity, diversity and inclusion.
