We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and resourceful professional to deliver on information recovery and family tracing for adults linked to the Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses, and their pathways and practices in NI. This role is regional and involves working in an empathetic, trauma informed, and user led way, to advocate for and with individuals seeking information about their time spent in institutions; their adoptions or seeking to trace biological family.
Adopt NI is an independent registered charity established in 1989. Our main priority is to support any adult impacted by the lifelong journey of adoption or separation from their family of origin (birth mothers, adopted adults, adopters, and siblings).
Some Key elements of the Role:
- Provide individual advice, support and advocacy for victims and survivors of the Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries, and workhouses in NI in accessing information and records and tracing birth family, in a non-judgemental and empathetic way.
- Ensure the process is client led, providing each individual with the emotional support necessary to gain agency in their life and make informed decisions.
- Support the empowerment of each client, using a trauma informed and person-centred focus to be adaptable to the individual needs of each client.
- Act as an intermediary for the above client group in cases requiring tracing and contact with family of origin, with direction from concerned individuals at the forefront.
- Liaise closely with the Family Tracing & Records Officers on cases requiring tracing and intermediary support, including voluntary DNA testing for clients.
