We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.
About this opportunity
We are launching nine MS Connect Cafes through Mid & East Antrim; Carrickfergus, Larne and Ballymena. These monthly cafes are a safe place for people with MS to connect with others affected by MS, supporting one and other, helping to improve emotional well-being.
We are looking for volunteer cafe hosts to help facilitate these monthly gatherings; from providing a welcoming and friendly environment to being a listening ear for those attending the cafes.
Each cafe host will be required to commit a maximum 3 hours per month as well as an initial induction. Each Connect Cafe will run for a couple of hours each month and hosts will be there to welcome those attending. We would like 2 hosts per cafe to ensure if one host is unable to attend there is another host available to facilitate the cafe.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally.
You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers.
In this role it is important to make those who attend our cafes feel welcome and included. You’ll be able to communicate with a wide variety of people, problem solve and think on your feet. You’ll be able to show empathy, use initiative, volunteer as part of a team, good listening skills and experience handling sensitive data is preferred.
Whether you are currently living with, have been affected by MS or would like to volunteer to enhance your skills, you are very welcome to apply for this role.
