Accommodation Support Worker, Francis Street Young Persons' Accommodation Project, Derry/Londonderry (ASWFS.R13.01)

Residential provision with a high level of support to vulnerable young people, (16-21 yrs). These support procedures will include monitoring, assessment and review of residents as well as ensuring a healthy, safe and secure living environment.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. To cover rota duties which includes day, evening and overnight shifts.

 

  1. To carry out daily operational tasks in a consistent manner.

 

  1. To participate in recording and reporting systems in regards to daily events in view of clear communication requirements including weekly updates to the named aftercare worker.

 

  1. To keep concise recording of service incomes, utilising appropriate logging systems.

 

  1. To participate in a range of designated household tasks ensuring the smooth running of the facility.

 

  1. To assume a key worker role for designated individuals through continuous assessment.  To participate in monitoring and review processes that will contribute towards tailored packages of support and to initiate a support planning structure in consultation with the named aftercare worker.

 

  1. To participate in working activities that deliver appropriate support at a pace that is in keeping with the young person’s ability/readiness to do so and cultivation of self-responsibility and preparedness for permanency in the community.

 

  1. To carry out working activities within the ethos of clear value base which respects choice, individuality, rights, privacy and partnership working. 

 

  1. Seek to build a healthy working relationship with young people in keeping with agreed areas of pathways plan.

 

  1. To carry out appropriate procedures and protocol that deal with high risk behaviours, decision making and conflict situations within openness and understanding.

 

  1. As key worker to contribute to multi-agency assessment of individual needs of the young person working in particular with Foyle Trust Leaving/After Care Service.

 

  1. To encourage and nurture the potential of each young person and provide life and social skills development towards achieving adulthood and self- sufficiency.

 

  1. To ensure appropriate support networks with voluntary, community, statutory sectors and referring agencies.

 

  1. As key worker to actively seek to encourage user engagement and involvement in training, employment, education and positive community network opportunities with an emphasis towards neighbourhood living skills.

 

  1. To attend regular staff meetings with the Manager.

 

  1. To participate in staff development and performance reviews and appraisals

.

  1. To carry out enhanced monitoring and evaluation of vulnerable individuals who have been identified as ‘as risk’.

 

  1. To participate in the implementation of fire safety procedures on a regular and consistent basis and to adhere to our overall health and safety policy.

 

  1. To attend monthly supervision sessions with appointed line manager.

 

  1. To have a commitment to engage in training as identified through supervision support and annual appraisal.  To participate in our training needs analysis through First Housing’s training section.

 

  1. To carry out regular health and safety checks as part of daily working activities.  Notifying line management of any areas of concern.

 

  1. To use databases and other electronic management systems focused towards service provision improvements and quality outcomes.

 

  1. To carry out other duties appropriate to the post as may be required.

There are 2 positions available: 1 X permanent, 37.5 hrs; 1 X fixed term for 6 months, 37.5 hrs

It should be noted that the criteria for this post may be enhanced to facilitate short listing.

First Housing operates a child protection and vulnerable adults policy, Access NI checks will be carried out before an appointment can be confirmed. Registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council is also compulsory for this position.
