Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Helpline
Please note: this role is home-based
Covid-19 has had a disproportionate impact on people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. In response to this Barnardo's has set up a helpline (with web chat facility) and therapeutic service to support children and young people and their families who are People of Colour.
This helpline is unique as it supports the complexity of issues that children and families from these communities face – using trained specialists to build coping strategies, broker other practical support and develop robust safeguarding responses. The Helpline staff will be a multi-disciplinary team of specialist practitioners. The helpline will provide advice and support which could be a one-off call that meets the needs of the service user; further support could be provided by the helpline adviser by providing a safe and listening space over two or three further telephone sessions; or if additional in depth support is required this support will be provided by specialist therapists
The role:
The role of Helpline Advisor will be rewarding and challenging, as you will not only be making a difference to the lives of others, but you will also need to work flexibly and on issues that are emotionally taxing for service users. You will take calls from and chat with service users via the web chat facility. You will also lead on providing additional support to Children & Young People where the level of need requires this through extra 1:1 support via the Helpline. You will be offering advice and support on a range of issues and you will refer service users to the therapeutic support service where it is identified further in depth support is required. Helpline Advisers are also required to properly record service user data, assess risk, action tasks in a timely manner and identify solutions.

Fixed term role for 12 months. It will offered as a secondment to internal applicants.
The Helpline will be open Monday-Friday between 9am - 8pm and Saturday-Sunday between 10am -3 pm.
