Strabane Sleep Out 19

It's that time again for Shelter NI's annual Sleep Out!

This year we are sleeping out in Strabane, so get your warm clothes and grab your sleeping bag and come join us!

Last year's Omagh Sleepout was another fantastic success, raising £7,000! And this year we hope to raise even more! We will be sleeping out on Saturday 7th December 2019, in solidarity with the World's Big Sleep Out, at Butcher's Street Car Park, Strabane.  

The World's Big Sleep Out is a global event to call for an end to homelessness, in which "we will sleep out in unison to create the world’s largest display of solidarity with and support of those experiencing homelessness and displacement".

We are taking to the street for the night to show our own display of solidarity in Strabane, home to our Project GABLE.

GABLE operates throughout the North West of NI and works with older people and those with disabilities, providing a number of home improvement and maintenance services, including: Disabled Facilities Grants support, the Trusted Trader Scheme, and emergency repairs and minor works such as installation of hand and grabrails through the Helping Hands Service. These services enable older and disabled people to remain in their homes and live independently for as long as possible.

Shelter NI firmly believes that everyone has a right to decent quality, affordable housing, that is not just a house but their home, and we work tirelessly to try to achieve this. 

The stereotypes of homelessness are rough sleeping and addiction, but there are many forms of homeless that are hidden and far less visible, but no less serious.

Unsuitable accommodation accounts for roughly one third of all instances of homelessness. Any one of us could find ourselves living in accommodation not fit for our needs as we age. 

We believe tackling the stigma around homeless is part of preventing homelessness, and our annual sleep out aims to raise awareness of homelessness issues and change the public’s perception of homelessness for the better. Because we ALL benefit from a society were no one has to face being homeless.

How can you join us?
Please register here, you must be over 18 to participate in this event. Once you submitted your registration a member of our team will contact you via email to give you further instructions.
We ask each participant to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. The easiest way to do this is via LocalGiving.com or on Facebook Fundraisers. 

How to get there?
You can get a bus to Strabane Bus Station, go to Bradley way, continue to Bridge Street and then turn left to Market Street and the you will find the car park on your right.
If traveling by car, you can park your car at Butcher Street Car Park.
