PlayBoard NI’s Annual General Meeting & Seminar

Leading The Play Agenda

PlayBoard NI

PlayBoard wouldn’t be the organisation that it is without its members! We would be delighted if you would join us for our AGM and Seminar on Thursday 4 November.

Date: Thursday 4 November 2021
Time: 10.00am – 12.00pm
Platform: Zoom

Our Seminar, being held on Outdoor Classroom Day, will focus on Covid-19 recovery and the importance of play, with an emphasis on the outdoors.

Guest speakers at our Seminar are Dr Naomi Lott, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of Oxford and Corinne Latham, Interim Director for Curriculum and Assessment, Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment.

Naomi will share her doctoral research findings on Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child – the Child’s Right to Play. Naomi’s research scrutinised the right to play: the challenges faced in realising the right, the obligations pertaining to it, and recommendations for changing its status as the ‘forgotten’ right, offering an important contribution to the child rights field.

Focusing on the impact of Covid-19 on children and school life, Corrine will share the importance of access to play as a key aspect of Covid recovery within schools. Highlighting the recently published A Fair Start report on educational underachievement, the significance of a play-based curriculum shall be discussed.

The Seminar will also include the launch of our Taking Outdoor Play Seriously (TOPS) and Positive Playgrounds programme supported by the Department of Education. The play programme, focused on Covid recovery, will support 20 schools across Northern Ireland to enhance their outdoor play offer and improve children’s school-based play experiences during this academic year.

We look forward to welcoming you to this special event on Outdoor Classroom Day, to share ideas to help us make outdoor play the best it can be.

The event is free and open to all PlayBoard members. You can sign up for free membership at https://www.playboard.org/membership
