Commissioned by the Equality Coalition, independent researcher Dr Robbie McVeigh has authored a piece of research on contemporary sectarianism in Northern Ireland. The 40 page report looks at ‘institutional sectarianism’ in NI - especially where there is evidence of sectarianism in decision-making - and puts forwards recommendations for state action on sectarianism.

Sectarianism: The Key Facts will be launched by the Equality Coalition during this year’s Northern Ireland Human Rights Festival at an event held in UNISON from 10.30am to 1pm on 11 December 2019.

The report will be presented in person by Dr Robbie McVeigh, after an introduction from Equality Coalition Co-Conveners Patricia McKeown (UNISON) and Daniel Holder (CAJ). There will then be a panel discussion with Seán Brady (PPR); Elaine Crory (Belfast Feminist Network & WRDA); Gráinne Ní Ghilín (An Dream Dearg); Kat Healy (Social Justice Trust); and Rachel Powell (Women’s Sector Lobbyist). Time will also be set aside at the event for questions from the audience.

All welcome. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served from 10.30am, with the event proper beginning at 11am. Lunch will be provided at the event close.

Please email [email protected] to register, stating any access or dietary requirements.

The Equality Coalition is co-convened by UNISON and CAJ.
