Gain knowledge and learn how to assist clients and families making decisions on housing choices. With an increasing aging population more of us are required to assist clients & their families make decisions regarding housing choices. Decisions regarding remaining at home or seeking to move into residential care are difficult and require support and informed decision making.

This comprehensive one day course will be co delivered by the Law Centre and Housing Rights.  It will examine the help available to enable a person stay in their home. It will also cover the financial aspects of moving into residential care when staying in the family home is no longer possible.

The course will cover:

  • Options for staying in the home
  • What to consider on choosing a care home
  • Financing Residential Care (including capital/ income assessed; Deprivation of capital; Jointly owned property; Top up fees ; Direct payments)

Who should attend the course?

Anyone who would benefit from a working knowledge of dealing with the intricacies of the move into residential care. This course will be of particular interest to generalist advisers, debt advisers, solicitors and constituency office worker.
