Join us this year for Northern Ireland's Homes and Communities Conference taking place on the 20 - 21 September 2018 in Dundalk to explore the issues and challenges impacting on our sector across the island of Ireland. The programme will feature the latest thinking in 21st century housing including: building resilient places, communities and regeneration, digital transformation, homelessness, regulation and Brexit and the economy.

About the event

The CIH Homes & Communities Conference 2018 expands on our previous theme of health & housing to encompass the issues and challenges impacting on our sector across the island of Ireland.

This conference will be of interest to a broad range of people working in housing and related disciplines including the latest thinking on 21st housing including: building resilience, community regeneration, digital transformation, Brexit and the economy and homelessness.

Pleanaries– in which experts from the sector, the region and beyond will explore the big picture and major challenges housing organisations face, including:

  • Placemaking
    • The built environment, including housing and infrastructure, can have an enormous impact on the quality of life for people. Local authorities and housing providers have a crucial role to play in achieving greater wellbeing and sense of place. This session will explore the role of design and planning in creating communities and will consider the inherent challenges including meeting the needs of various stakeholders.
  • Reducing homelessness through partnerships & collaboration
    • Partnership working and collaboration are key elements in a strong prevention strategy. In this interactive session, our expert panel will share their experiences and thoughts on what good partnership working looks like and how to maximise resources achieve better outcomes.
  • The economy in focus
    • Our morning session will open with an analysis of the economic operating environment north and south of the border. It will consider both the current situation and post Brexit. How does the economy affect housing markets? What is the impact on housing providers?
  • Future gazing
    • In this interactive and lively session, our expert panel will share their thoughts on the changes needed to housing law, policy and practice to make sure we have a robust housing system meeting the needs of everyone.
  • What does a 21st century provider look like?
    • The social housing sector is embracing new practices and changes to workplace culture to deliver value for residents and to improve efficiencies. This session will examine the benefits and challenges of adopting these initiatives for best practice in housing management.
