“CAGED” Project frees the imagination of older people

The Big Lottery Funded Fermanagh and Armagh Connected Together Project (developed by Lisnaskea-based South East Fermanagh Foundation) has continued to offer opportunities for local older people in the community through hosting The “Caged Project”.

The “Caged” Project was funded through Fermanagh PCSP and used Drama as a way of raising awareness of the “Fear of Crime”. Class Act Drama performed a play which delivered many important messages for older people to keep safe within their own home and to not feel “Caged”.

The play was performed in the Donn Carragh Hotel, Lisnaskea on Tuesday 14th October 2014 to approximately 50 FACT Project members. After the play a lively discussion was held on issues affecting older people in their own homes and within their local community. Audience participation was key in assisting the development of a flyer which aims to raise awareness of the issues older people face as well as outlining a set of principles people can use in reducing their fear of crime.

A week later (Tuesday 21st October) the Crime Prevention Officer addressed the same group of older people following on from the themed discussions of the previous week. The audience of older people were also given a chance to view and make changes to the ‘Community Safety’ flyer. The flyer (which is easily understood) will now be distributed to older people throughoutCountyFermanagh.

Fermanagh PCSP funded the “Caged Project” with catering provided by the FACT Project. The FACT Project is funded through The Big Lottery: Reaching out Connecting Older People’s Scheme. The FACT Project can be contacted on 028 677 22615.
