A BBC Radio Ulster Appeal on behalf of the British Red Cross

The Red Cross emblem has been a symbol of humanitarian help and protection for 150 years.

The Red Cross is well known around the world and you’ll often see Red Cross volunteers on the news helping vulnerable people but the charity is also doing important, if very different, work here in Northern Ireland.

Voluntary service is a founding principle of the Red Cross and its highly trained volunteers make an enormous difference to the lives of vulnerable people. A local Red Cross volunteer could be involved in providing first aid… or they might work to support an older person remain independent in their own homes.

Every Red Cross service is different, and every volunteer is unique.

Anyone over the age of fifteen can volunteer for the Red Cross in Northern Ireland. A wide range of opportunities are available, allowing volunteers to choose something that matches their skills, interests and availability.
