The Rainbow Project would like to recruit a Western Health and Well-being Outreach Officer to be based at its Foyle office.

Job Title:                                 Health and Wellbeing Outreach Officer - Western

Responsible To:                      Board of Directors (BoD)

Line Manager:                        Health and Wellbeing Services Manager

Salary:                                    Salary Scale SO2 £23,166 – 24,717 full-time

Location:                                 Foyle LGBT Centre 

Hours:                                     35 Hours per week

Contract:                                 2 Year Full Time post

Holidays:                                 25 Days P. A. plus statutory holidays.

 

Overall Objectives of the Post

  • Ensure the delivery of a range programmes in the Western Area - providing services to LGB&/T people; providing an efficient, friendly and effective service for LGB&T clients who engage with a range of services, engaging with relevant stakeholders and the public to promote the services, delivering training and improving the awareness and knowledge of relevant local statutory and community and voluntary agencies of the issues of LGB&T health and wellbeing,
  • Support the development of volunteers and placement opportunities within the organisation 
  • Engage with colleagues in the Health and Wellbeing Services Team and wider staff team to keep them updated and informed of the health improvement operation of the organisation and improve their knowledge and skills in relevant areas as deemed appropriate and necessary.
  • Promote the range of health and wellbeing services provided by the organisation throughout the key areas identified above
  • Work as part of a regional organisation including regular travel to Belfast for staff meetings and  training

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

-        Three GCSEs at grade C or above to include English;

-        One year’s full-time or part-time experience as a paid member of staff working in a health improvement or community development project

OR

-        two years similar experience as a volunteer;

-        Experience of working on own initiative with limited on-going supervision


A third level qualification is desirable but not essential.


Essential Competencies

-        Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills;

-        Proven excellent interpersonal skills;

-        Proven excellent IT competencies;

-        Evidence of commitment to equality and social inclusion;

-        Proven experience and understanding of confidentiality and impartiality within an advocacy context

-        Previous successful experience of delivering training to professionals

-        Previous experience of delivering workshops and education programmes


Desirable Experience and Competencies

-        Understanding of issues affecting members of the LGB&/T community including but not limited to homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and heterosexism;

-        Experience of working in the LGBT Sector as a volunteer or paid member of staff;

-        Experience of working on health and wellbeing issues with LGB&/T communities

-        A full drivers licence and access to a car

General

The Rainbow Project regards all posts within the organisation to carry a degree of flexibility in their execution of duties in order to assist the development of the organisation.  All responsibilities associated with contracted personnel will be carried out in line with the aims and objectives of the organisation and policies set out by the Board of Trustees.  The above job description should not be viewed as an exhaustive list as other tasks may need to be undertaken as directed by the Line manager.

Employees will be expected to be flexible in their approach to working hours, as evening and weekend work may be necessary.
