Responsible to: Childcare Supervisor/Manager/Deputy Manager

Hours:                  37.5 Hours (17.5 hours Assistant, 20 hours Supervisor)

Salary:                  £15.984.66 - £17509.59 + 7% pension

 

Main purpose of Job

To assist Management in ensuring the smooth running of the childcare facility

 

Main Responsibilities (Supervisor)

  1. To support each child by providing a stimulating and varied programme of play, in order to enhance each child’s abilities.
  2. To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the facility,.
  3. To ensure the protection, safety and wellbeing of children at all times.
  4. To support and supervise staff on a day-to-day basis and carry out regular staff appraisals, supervisions and back to work interviews
  5. To integrate with other staff including management, in order to ensure a team working environment.
  6. To ensure co-ordination of the childcare unit in terms of administration,

 

Main Responsibilities (Assistant)

  1. To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the facility,.
  2. To ensure the protection, safety and wellbeing of children at all times.
  3. To give support to other personnel within the facility,
  4. To implement the daily routine in the children’s playroom.

 

Main Duties (supervisor)

  1. Assist Management in providing effective day-to-day running of the childcare unit
  2. Managing, leading and supervising a team of childcare staff, volunteers and trainees,
  3. Assist Management in the collection and accounting of monies.
  4. Operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children attending the day-care centre.
  5. To integrate with other staff including management, in order to ensure a team working environment.
  6. To listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the well being of children placed in the early years unit.
  7. To prepare and fully set out the playroom before the children arrive and tidy it up after the children leave.
  8. In conjunction with the staff team, make systematic observations and assessments of each child’s individual needs within the group and plan daily to meet these needs.
  9. To keep up-to-date records as stipulated by social services and the requirements of the management of the group.
  10. In conjunction with Management, to contribute to the creation, maintenance and improvement of a child centred environment.
  11. To implement the standards laid down in the centre’s childcare policies and procedures.
  12. To assist management in promoting Equal Opportunities within the childcare facility.
  13. To work alongside parents/carers of additional needs children to achieve full integration within the childcare facility.
  14. Undertake certain domestic duties within the childcare facility, i.e. preparation of snacks, cleansing of equipment.
  15. Work alongside Management and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the childcare facility is fulfilled.
  16. To keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff, this is learnt as part of the job.  Such information should only be passed on in the interests of the individual and only to the Childcare Manager/Head of Childcare Services
  17. Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in curriculum planning
  18. Undertake any relevant training as considered necessary by management ,(training may take place outside of normal working hours)
  19. Undertake other duties, which may be requested from time to time by Management..
  20. To work within the Mission, Vision and values of Ashton Community Trust.

  4. Work alongside parents/careers of additional needs children to give full integration in the day-care centre.
  5. To contribute to the creation, maintenance and improvement of a child centred environment,
  6. To integrate with other staff including management, in order to ensure a team working environment.
  7. Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members.
  8. Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in curriculum planning.
  9. Undertake certain domestic jobs within the day-care centre, e.g. preparation of snacks, cleansing of equipment etc.
  10. Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learnt as part of the job. 
  11. Undertake any relevant training as considered necessary by management, (training may take place outside of normal working hours)
  12. Undertake any other duties, which may be required from time to time.
  13. To ensure you work within the Mission, Vision and Values of Ashton Community Trust.

Essential Criteria     

  • NVQ 3 in childcare and Education or equivalent
  • Supervisory experience in a childcare setting
  • Experience of curriculum planning
  • A flexible approach to working hours and location,
  • Ability to work as part of a team

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with school age children,
  • Experience of working with children with additional needs
