A great opportunity to join the Stepping Stones NI Charity and work in our Coffee shop where trainees with learning disabilities develop their skills.
The post holder will serve customers and assist with the day to day running of the Coffee Shop.

Main Duties

 

  1. Serve customers to a high standard, recommend specials, take orders, liaising with kitchen staff and serving food..

     

  2. To provide a high level of customer service at all times, ensuring all customers are given a customer service survey. Ensure customers needs are met, and ensure that the needs of the business are met. Encourage sales by demonstrating a friendly and approachable attitude towards customers at all times

  3. To serve customers in a friendly and timely fashion

  4. To ensure the coffee shop and the kitchen  remains clean and tidy at all times

  5. To assist the trainees and volunteers in the coffee shop to complete their duties and learn new skills.

  6. To take orders promptly and correctly from customers and ensure they reach the kitchen in a timely fashion and support trainees in doing so.

  7. To help in the kitchen as and when  required

  8. To re-stock fridges, condiments and food display areas throughout the day

  9. To clean/clear and re-dress tables in a timely fashion and support the trainees to complete these jobs when appropriate

  10. To ensure that standards of hygiene are maintained in food practices in accordance with health and safety practices and in line with environmental health.

  11. To adhere to any training required to fulfil duties

  12. To work as part of a team and have a flexible attitude to work in a customer focused environment.

  13. Flexibility in hours may be required due to the nature of the business.

  14. To complete incident report form, relay any trainee incidents to your line manager.

 

  1. Any other duties deemed appropriate to the post

     

  2.   Assist the team by providing support where required.

     

     

  3. Deliver excellent Customer Care, serving customers and serving food to high standards to ensure the café has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

 

  1. Support the trainees who are part of the Coffee shop, and help them learn and develop new skills, demonstrating by example. Assist the trainee’s key worker to meet of each trainee’s individual training plan.

     

  2. Responsible for communicating and liaising closely with all  other departments and colleagues.

 

  1. Ensure adequate and professional display of all food items, ensure a clean and professional working environment in order to meet the customer needs, expectations, trends and seasonal changes and have a competitive environment.

 

  1. To ensure a high standard of customer service, and maximisation of profit in line with budgets.

 

  1. Ensure that appropriate cleaning and relevant paperwork records are effectively maintained.

 

 

  1. Contribute to the maintenance of an effective stock control system and assist the catering team with food ordering , purchase and usage as required.

 

 

  1. Ensure the maintenance of an effective cash control, till reconciliation system and ordering in line with Company procedures.

 

 

  1. Ensure use and maintenance of equipment and machinery is carried out in accordance with company procedures.

     

  2. To participate in courses as delegated by the Operations Manager.

     

 

  1. Work towards the implementation of the Stepping Stones Strategy, quality standards and targets

 

  1. To ensure all Company policies and procedures are adhered to.

 

  1. To undertake any other duties deemed appropriate to the post and provide cover for staff team when required.

 

 

Personal Specification

 

Vocational Training Officer (Catering – Food Preparation)

 

 

Essential

  1. Experience of working with customers in a commercial  catering environment.

  2. Experience in serving food and taking orders, operate the till and deal with cash and card payments.

  3. Able to provide excellent customer care in a busy coffee shop environment.

  4. Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude

  5. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

Desirable
  1. Able to work with people with learning disabilities and learning difficulties as part of a team.

  2. Possess a City & Guild Certificate 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ level 1 Catering and  D32/33 award or equivalent

  3.  Able to promote the specials and the regular menu, by providing customers with relevant information in a polite and friendly manner.
