Recruiting for an Assistant Chef in our successful social enterprise The Garden Cafe Donwpatrick. The ideal candidate must have experience in cooking high quality food,assist in management of kitchen staff and deliver excellent customer service.

The Assistant Chef will be responsible for managing all the aspects related to the day to day operations in the kitchen, including preparing , cooking and plating food, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, complying with all the legal requirements related to the food industry and catering, and  work as part of a team in a fast paced, high volume catering environment producing high quality home cooked food.

The post holder will assist in  managing the kitchen staff, including agency staff, and ensure they are provided with adequate support and supervision.

  • Prepare a range of food for high volume groups, including soup, sandwiches, salads, stews and freshly baked goods, following guidelines from the lead Chef.
  • Liaise with suppliers when instructed,  ensuring best prices are obtained in order to maximise progress, and provide adequate food for both regular customers and group bookings.
  • Provide high Customer service, keep a clean and friendly environment, restock and clean freezers and fridges and maintain legal requirements.
  • Responsible for assisting in reaching the financial targets in regards to the café by producing quality food and minimising wastage.
  • Assist the team in supporting the trainees with learning disabilities to develop employability and social skills.
  • Responsible for following all Food Hygiene quality standards and legal requirements in respect of customer service, hygiene and health and safety and environmental health, maintaining records in line with legislation and company policies and maintaining machinery.
  • Ensure administrative procedures and financial procedures are followed accurately and timely, and keep all necessary records of suppliers/deliveries, bookings,  stock, wastage, HACAP, allergens, Food Hygiene etc
