REQUIREMENTS:           

Applicants must have experience of delivering youth work in various settings and show evidence of having delivered and developed areas of the youth work curriculum. Applicants must Fluently speak the Irish Language.

Job Description:     Irish Medium Assistant youth worker 

 

Responsible to:      Worker-in-Charge

 

Responsible for:     The delivery of key aspects of the unit programme including the planning and delivery of accredited youth work programmes and the implementation of Foram na nÓg policies.  

 

Job purpose:  To work directly with young people to develop their social education by providing programmes of activities through the medium of the Irish language. This post is for staff appointed to undertake key duties, under the direction of a Worker-in-Charge.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. To work directly with young people to develop their social education by providing programmes of activities, related to the ‘Model for Effective Practice’ through the medium of Irish. 

 

  1. Ensuring that young people play an active role in the youth group and work towards a model of youth participation.

 

  1. Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people.

 

  1. Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.

 

  1. Assist young people to express and realise their goals.

 

  1. Enable young people to work effectively in groups.

 

  1. Challenge oppressive behaviour in young people.

 

  1. Provide information and support to young people.

 

  1. Encourage young people to broaden their horizons and be active citizens.

 

  1. Support young people in evaluating youth work activities and the impact of youth work on their development.

 

  1. Support young people in their understanding of risk and challenge and in taking action to address key issues in their lives.

 

  1. Implement the unit’s Child Protection Policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.

 

  1. Carry out administrative duties within the unit, under the direction of the Line Manager.
