MiDAS Training

MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme which promotes a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. It is a membership based scheme that has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses. Fermanagh Community Transport is the organisation who delivers MIDAS training in Fermanagh. We run courses throughout the year which consist of one evening covering minibus driving theory in a classroom environment with a multiple choice exam at the end of it. Then all students will complete a 1 hour practical examination out on the road in one of our 16 seater minibuses with our instructor. MiDAS membership lasts for 4 years and is widely recognised by Communtiy Transport operators throughout the UK. 

Who is it aimed at?

MiDAS is applicable to any organisation operating or using minibuses. Member organisations include sports clubs, youth groups, community groups, church groups and a range of individuals who want to help out in the community by driving a minibus. If a driver has a D1 category on driving license then the driver can drive up to a 16 seater minibus provided they have passed MIDAS. If a driver has just a B1 category on driving license then the driver can drive up to a 10 seater minibus provided they have passed MIDAS. 

 What will I gain from completing MiDAS?

Improved driving skills, a nationally recognised driving qualification which will help employability and the ability to drive a 16 seater minibus hired from Fermanagh Community Transport or other provider. Plus huge savings on driver costs when hiring minibuses.  All FCT vehicles are fully accessible and training includes using passenger lift and securing wheelchairs safely. 

 How much will it cost?

The MiDAS qualification costs £50 per person which includes both the theory session with exam and the practical driving test. The fee is payable on booking a place on the course and is non-refundable.
