The reform of local government will see the reduction of 26 councils to 11. The process will be completed by April 2015. The new councils will be stronger, more efficient and will deliver more effective services.

Environment Minister Alex Attwood has announced an agreement which will transfer a package of functions to the 11 new councils from central government departments in April 2015.
