Stricklands Care Village

Situated overlooking Belfast Lough and the coastal path from Bangor to Holywood, Strickland’s Care Village provides supported housing with care and support services in modern purpose built accommodation. The tenants live in apartments or bungalows appropriate to their care needs.

Strickland’s Care Village has been involved with the community resettlement process emanating from the Northern Ireland Executive’s commitment to closing long stay institutions for individuals with a learning disability. The integrated facilities available on site enable an efficient approach to the resettlement planning and management of the needs of individuals, families, health trusts, hospitals and community care professionals.

Strickland’s Care Village is a busy environment and staff are committed to providing an excellent standard of care. Staff employed at Strickland’s need to be highly skilled and competent to manage residents’ complex care needs and associated medical emergencies which occur frequently.

Staff are facilitated to attend additional training to ensure skills and competency e.g. management of syringe driver for pain management, emergency management of epilepsy and respiratory events, assessment of the deteriorating patient.

Tenants and residents are supported with back up from the District Nursing Team and the GP to live at Strickland’s Care Village to the end of their lives.

For a number of years the care village model at Strickland’s with its multi -agency approach has resulted in person – centred, supportive caring services which ensures a good quality of life for the tenants and residents and which complements the aims of the Transforming Your Care Review proposals put forward in December 2011 by The NI Health and Social Care Board (NIHSCB). The trustees of Strickland’s Care Village are committed to developing services, which will be sustainable into the future, in partnership with the new structures being put in place by NIHSCB.

Utility Street Men's Hostel

Harmoni operate the Utility Street Mens Hostel in Belfast. It has accommodation for 58 single men and one disabled occupancy space suitable for service users with wheelchair needs. The unit was built in 1982 by Habinteg Housing Association who own the building to this day, with Harmoni being the only renter to date.

The facility was modernised with a significant grant through DSD to Habinteg Housing association in 2013-2015, this has created a rejuvenated space for Harmoni to engage service users to a much more significant level. The service delivery has changed significantly over the years, today service users are accommodated for the period appropriate to them personally on their journey back to independent living.

Our aim is to support the statutory bodies and agencies to accommodate service users in need of direct access accommodation. We aim to assist service users to grow their personal capacity to the point where they can leave Utility street and enter either statutory, Social Voluntary or community or private housing provision.
