We are looking for proactive and passionate staff members to join our team working in Londonderry & Donegal as part of Mencap’s HEROES project. The project is supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV programme, which runs until 30th June 2022, and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Working in partnership with Londonderry YMCA, Devenish Partnership Forum and the Health Service Executive, the HEROES project aims to deliver an inclusive programme of personal development, citizenship and good relations to young people. At least one third of the young people participating on the programme will have a learning disability or autism.

We are excited to announce, we are growing in Northern Ireland and because of the wonderful Heroes project described above, we are looking to recruit Youth Support Workers. 

This is a fixed term role for 20 hours per week until June 2022. 

The Youth Support Worker will support and contribute to the success of Mencap activity programmes, assisting in the delivery of a stimulating and appropriate range of leisure activities and experiences for children and young people with a range of learning disabilities and associated needs. The successful candidates will provide an excellent level of customer service to all parties.

The ability to work safely is essential to the Youth Worker role so that the children, young people and families we support feel safe and confident and can trust the service they receive.

The successful candidates will have good communication skills and will have the initiative of working on their own. They will be enthusiastic about the Mencap values and for our inclusive practices. The Youth Worker will be energetic and flexible as there may be travel in accordance with the needs of the post.
