The Youth officer will be responsible for promoting the inclusion of children and young people with disabilities, autism and brain injury into a broad range of mainstream activities by developing their social and emotional skills.

Cedar delivers a range of services that enable people with disabilities to get the most out of life and to be fully included in their communities. Our services are centred around the individual needs of each person and are delivered throughout Northern Ireland.
We now require two Youth Officers - Southern Health & Social Care Trust Area & Western Health & Social Care Trust (Northern Area)

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the young people accessing the Youth Matters service deliver a range of social events, relevant personal development programmes, youth focused activities that enhance their future development.
  • To develop purposeful relationships with young people to ensure that their ideas, thoughts and feedback are recorded and communicated.
  • Plan and deliver a range of personal development programmes that will address issues facing young people in today’s society.
  • Work with a range of community-based projects that provides young people with avenues to express themselves, raise concerns and discuss their aspirations.
  • Ensure child/young person support needs are met whilst accessing activities/programmes including some personal care tasks.
  • Be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all children and staff participating in all activities.
  • Mentor, coach and support children and young people and encourage greater social inclusion within their local communities.
  • To provide young people with the opportunity to develop their voices and influence society.
  • To promote relationship building and problem solving skills between young people engaging in the service.
  • Working with parents and community groups to gain support for improved provision whilst acting as an advocate for young people’s interests.
