Youth Education Volunteer Derry~Londonderry

British Red Cross

Voluntary
2.00
Could you help young people aged 10 to 19 years learn simple skills that could help during a crisis in their local community? Are you able to commit to delivering either one 2- 4 hour workshop per week or a full day of workshops every other week?

We want to give young people in the community the skills to cope in a crisis. That's why we offer first aid training relating to drugs, alcohol, knife crime, and for young carers. We're also passionate about starting conversations with young people to reduce the harmful effects of stigmatising behaviour against migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

You'll be working with young people to build their personal, social, emotional, and critical thinking skills.

Could Youth Education volunteering be for you?

We'd love to hear from you if you're positive about the difference our young people can make to enable children and teenagers to understand, cope with and respond to a crisis.

The role is also an ideal opportunity if you want to gain experience working with young people in an education environment, learning skills in presentation, facilitation, and teaching.

Don't worry if you haven't done this type of role before, you'll receive full training and support from our friendly team.

While gaining and enhancing transferable workplace skills, you'll have the chance to make a real difference in young people's lives and engage with your local community.

What You'll Do:

  • Deliver interactive workshops to groups of young people in schools and youth settings
  • Assist in the planning of sessions and preparation of resources.
  • Evaluation of the workshops and associated simple record keeping.
  • Care and maintenance of training resources.

Additional information

As part of the role, you'll travel to various venues to deliver workshops. This'll include carrying lightweight equipment or learning materials.

You'll work in a variety of youth settings (e.g., schools, youth groups, community centres, and youth offending units, etc.) depending on the needs of the young people and our partnerships.

You'll be able to commit to the role for a minimum of 9 months.

As part of the recruitment and selection process, volunteers are required to have an Access NI check to the appropriate level.

We are taking applications at this challenging time, we will be holding telephone interviews and you will be able to prepare for volunteering by completing online training. However, there may be a delay in start date find out more and apply on the website here: https://bit.ly/YouthVolDerry
