The Board of CANS would like to recruit Voluntary Board Member to support our work

CANS was recognised as a charity in 2013, founded in response to a clearly identified need for culturally-specific counselling for people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities resident in Northern Ireland. The need was initially recognised by people from the BAME community living in N Ireland and the founding members were from the BAME community. We provide culturally appropriate psychological therapies and our therapists are also trained to treat psychological trauma. The current Board represents many of the BAME communities in NI and at any time at least 5 members of the Board must be from the BAME community.

As you can see from our strategic plan:

CANS MISSION is to empower people from BAME communities to express and meet their mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.

Our VISION for the future is one where individuals, families and communities live together in justice, harmony and welcome, meeting needs appropriately, with nobody left out.

VALUES are important to us, particularly professionalism and putting clients’ needs first

The Board currently meets monthly (by zoom because of the current covid19 restrictions) and is responsible for ensuring good governance including finance, human resources, legal compliance, risk management and developing strategy in line with our strategic plan which is available on our website https://counsellingallnations.org/

This is an exciting time for CANS as we continue to expand our services in this time when the need for our specialised services is becoming more and more apparent.

We are particularly looking for people with expertise in governance, HR, law etc but we are open to expressions of interest from any interested person and are happy to discuss the role of a board member with anyone who is interested.
