Threshold Board Member With Legal And Business Experience

Threshold has been delivering mental health services to people in Northern Ireland since 1990. It is hoping to welcome someone to the board with legal, business and financial skills to help maintain the values and vital work of the organisation.

The Role

 

At Threshold, we have major changes ahead in the shape of a new management team, including the Chief Executive, unfolding before the end of 2025. We are keen to bring a range of business-oriented skills to the board such as change and project management acumen. Our trustees are also mindful of how the drivers of strategy and dynamics in the third sector differ from the for-profit sector. We would like the new post holder to have commercial law and financial knowledge to help maintain the values of our organisation and ensuring that the work we do continues to provide a service to people with severe mental illness.

 

Skills and Competencies

 

Those interested in serving as a Threshold trustee must be able to demonstrate that they:
 
1. Have leadership skills, including the ability to be objective, to explore and question, and to act decisively when necessary 
2. Are committed to the work of Threshold
3. Are team players, able to listen and work with others, offering guidance and support, to ensure effective decision-making by the board  
4. Understand the responsibilities of company directors and company trustees, the importance of good governance, and agree to work in accordance with any code of practice agreed by the board. Ongoing support, learning and development opportunities will be offered to trustees with this  
5. Are good communicators, willing and able to promote the decisions of the board and the interests of Threshold and its clients
6. Are able and willing to act impartially and apolitically
7. Have strong analytical skills, can assimilate information and grasp complex issues quickly, and then apply independent judgment
8. Experience of change and project management
