Support Worker

To foster a person-centred approach to supported employment, providing customised, responsive and high-quality support to assist an employee to carry out a range of tasks as a Lecturer and Course-Co-Ordinator.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • To participate in the operation of the practical learning environment in accordance with agreed College procedures. 

  • To prepare and lay out equipment and other materials for practical activities, classes and assessments. 

  • To clean and maintain equipment, including and carrying out simple repairs dealing with storage and labelling. 

  • Tidy up and clean materials including laundry duties, to ensure a safe and hygienic working environment at all times. 

  • To inform the relevant person of broken equipment. 

  • To maintain up-to-date records.  

  • To maintain documentation and systems e.g. on the loan and operation of equipment. 

  • To provide a reception service for Urban Escape services 

  • To handle cash and electronic forms of payment as required. 

 

 

 

Maintain accurate stock control  

  • Administer the ordering, control and dispensing of stock.  

  • Monitor inventory and stock levels.  

  • Receive, distribute and store materials.  

  • Receive and check items delivered are in good condition and that they agree with both the order and delivery documentation.  

  • Ensure appropriate paperwork is recorded and submitted for processing.  

 

Health and Safety 

  • Participate in the operation of the practical learning environment in accordance with agreed College procedures. 

  • Create and maintain an environment for student learning that is constantly monitored to ensure it adheres to professional standards and is clean and safe.  

  • Operate within appropriate Health and Safety standards and carry out risk assessments as directed. 

  • Instruct staff and students on Health and safety matters relevant to specialist equipment.  

  • Carry out induction and training for students and staff unfamiliar with equipment in relevant vocational area. 

  • Maintain health and safety requirements in the practical environment including COSHH regulations, to an appropriate level. 

  • Carry out safety checks in accordance with instructions and codes of practice and/or the College’s health and safety policy. 

  • Safely store and, when required, dispose of waste/chemicals in accordance with agreed procedures. 

  • Operate laundry equipment 

  • Initiate safety checks when appropriate.  

  • Ensure maintenance of equipment and instruments as per operational and Health and safety requirements.  

 

General 

  • To contribute to the achievement of the College’s mission, values and strategic directions.  

  • Participate in the Colleges performance appraisal system 

  • Participate in College developments, attend internal and external meetings and training programmes required 

  • Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in College policies 

  • To implement and embed the College’s equality and diversity policies and respond to its equality and diversity duties as they relate to all stakeholders. 

  • Act, if directed as fire marshal or warden 

  • Carry out, if directed, the role of first aider 

  • To undertake such other relevant duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder.  

 

Working Pattern 

The post holder will be required to working within the working hours of the staff member to be supported in the workplace, however, this will be agreed on appointment.  The current working pattern of the Supported Person is as follows: 

Monday - Thursday 

During non-term time hours of work may vary to suit the needs of the business 

This working pattern may be subject to change depending on business need. 

Please note – candidates will be required to work the same pattern as the individual they are offering support to, inclusive of holidays. 

All temporary appointments will be offered under a Contract for Services, which all parties will be required to sign in advance of commencement of any assignment with the College.  

 

Further Education is an ever-changing service and all staff are expected to participate constructively in College activities and to adopt a flexible approach to their work.
