Local groups are run by volunteers who usually have experience of Parkinson's and are supported by professional staff. The North Down Group are currently looking for helpers to attend their monthly meetings and help organise speakers and activities.

North Down Support Group meets on the third Monday of the month from 2-3.30pm at Ards Arts Centre, Town Hall
Conway Square,Newtownards. The group currently requires volunteers to help at this meeting and with some admin between meetings.
Local groups are run by volunteers and offer friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's, their families and carers across the UK.

The Support Group Helper keeps the group organised and running smoothly.

As a Support Group Helper you may:

• work at a local level to promote the group and Parkinson's UK
• support other volunteers and members during busy periods
• help with setting and clearing up after group meetings
• assist at events, which may include serving refreshments, handling registrations and raffles
• welcome new people when they come along to activities for the first time

We're looking for volunteers who:

• have strong administrative, organisational, communication and IT skills to ensure the smooth running of the group.
• can be collaborative and team focused, as you will need to gather and distribute information to everyone involved
• have a positive attitude in order to make things happen in our local community

You may also be asked to undertake relevant learning and development opportunities and be invited to attend events and meetings.

As a Support Group Helper you would have the opportunity to:

• do something meaningful for people who are affected by Parkinson's within your area
• meet new people and make new friends, both in the group and in the local community
• learn and develop valuable organisational, administrative and people skills
• make a valuable contribution to the success of the group
• be part of an innovative and inclusive organisation committed to finding a cure and improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.
