Are you interested in volunteering with our dynamic team of counsellors? Do you want to learn from our highly experienced and qualified staff? Do you have the drive and passion to change the lives of children, adolescents, adults & families in NI?

Would you like to gain valuable experience as a volunteer counsellor to support your studies or work towards accreditation?

Familyworks is a Newtownards-based counselling service established in 1999 that provides professional counselling services in the local community. We support the emotional health and wellbeing of children, young people, adults and families in our community, schools and local organisations.

Our team of highly qualified counsellors provide a broad range of services and are trained in CBT, Integrative, Person-centred, Psychodynamic, Play or Art therapy. We work with a wide range of issues including low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties and loss.

Student Placement opportunities

We are looking for student counsellors who are undertaking training at diploma, degree or masters level to join our team.

This voluntary role gives the opportunity for trainees to gain clinical experience with a counselling agency. We will provide you with support and training throughout your placement and you will have the opportunity to learn from some of our highly experienced team. We will allocate clients who we assess are appropriate for your level of training and support you throughout your work.

Depending on your course requirements, our placements involve working one-to-one with either children, young people and adults. We require that trainees are members of an appropriate professional body (BACP, NCS, IACP, PTUK, HCPC or equivalent).

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for volunteer counsellors to join our Community team based in our Newtownards office.

Volunteer role requirements:

  • Professional qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Art or Play therapy
