This post has been created thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund The successful appointee will assist the project manage with implementing the delivery of all aspects of SRG’s St. Joseph’s project from inception to completion.

St Joseph’s Community Hub Project.

SRG are delighted to have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to create 2 posts as part of Stage 2 of our strategic plan for Sailortown. This will be achieved by reopening St Joseph’s Church, a Grade B listed historic building, for ‘meanwhile use’ as a community hub. This part of the project will run for 2 years and lay the foundation for Stage 3 when it is envisioned that the Church and the attached Parochial house will be restored to provide an iconic space for cultural and creative activities in an area of high urban deprivation. The project will support local people in coming together and working towards positive change for their community in this historic and long neglected city centre area.

Sailortown Regeneration (SRG)

SRG, a registered charity, was set up in 2006 by ex Sailortown residents to promote Urban Regeneration in the Lower North area of Belfast. Its aim is to create a long-term sustainable community by working with residents, key stakeholders and partners to improve public amenities, facilities and infrastructure in and around the Sailortown area. SRG provides and manages offices/community space for the use of a range of groups focusing on Sailortown related community development. They also hold St Joseph’s Church and Parochial house in trust for the community and are working to restore it as a viable asset to drive forward a community led regeneration of this historic docks area. This is being done in 3 stages, the first of which was carrying out emergency repairs and they are now moving on to Stage 2.
