Diane Dodds MLA is seeking a motivated individual to support her in policy research and communications. In addition to support on general Assembly business, the individual will also work on ensuring the Member has a quality communications service.

 

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and research skills, be able to work independently, and driven to provide robust policy advice and creative communications.

 

LOCATION                      Upper Bann

START DATE                  ASAP Following appointment

WORKING PATTERN     37.5 hours per week.

 

Starting salary: £22,750 PA (Grade 3; pro-rated if working part-time)

 

 

Responsibilities to include:

Research for all aspects of members Assembly business and production of concise briefing documents.

Liaising with all sections of the media, specialist journalists, editors and other spokespeople for external organisations.

Drafting press releases, monitoring and arranging media coverage.

Identifying media /press opportunities and advising on press strategy.

Updating/maintaining internet social networking media.

Planning and organising press conferences and media events.

Preparing newsletters/mailshots/publicity material.

Drafting speeches as required.

Liaising with, and building relationships with, government departments, statutory agencies, lobby groups, and constituency organisations and groups.

Drafting replies to correspondence as required.

 

 

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Third level degree or higher OR 3 years relevant experience
  • 3 years experience working in a political environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of devolved government structures and stakeholders
  • Experienced in digital communications, including content production and social media campaigning
  • Good IT skills including working with MS Excel and Access. Familiarity with design packages and web content management desirable
  • Good organisation skills, capable of dealing with heavy workloads and tight deadlines
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Willingness to undertake work outside of office hours occasionally

 

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience working in the Northern Ireland Assembly
  • Video editing skills
