To provide support to Michelle McIlveen MLA in respect of policy research and the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy.

To provide support to Michelle McIlveen MLA in respect of policy research and the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and research skills, be able to work independently and be driven to provide robust policy advice and communications in addition to providing assistance with general Assembly business.

 

Job Description:

To provide research and support for all aspects of the member’s Assembly business and constituency matters, including the scrutiny of legislation and production of concise briefing documents

To monitor Assembly legislation and debates and maintain knowledge of relevant and emerging legislation

To contribute to strategic planning

To draft press releases, monitor and arrange media coverage

To identify media /press opportunities

To update /maintain internet social networking media

To prepare external, printed communication for constituents including constituency newsletters/mailshots/publicity material and organise their delivery

To draft speeches and written/oral questions to Ministers, as required

To liaise with, and build relationships with, government departments, statutory agencies, lobby groups and constituency organisations and groups.

To plan, organise and promote events, including Constituency Surgeries

To assist with constituency casework, as required

To carry out other duties, as required, in support of the MLA carrying out their Assembly role

 

Essential Criteria:

Third level degree or higher in a relevant subject

3 years’ experience working in a political environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience managing casework

Good knowledge of key policy issues relating to Strangford

Good understanding of devolved government structures and stakeholders

Ability to scrutinise legislation

Experience in digital communications, including content production and social media campaigning

Good IT skills including working with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Access and familiarity with Adobe design package

Good organisational skills, capable of dealing with heavy workloads within tight deadlines

Full driving licence and access to a car

Willingness to occasionally work outside of office hours

 

Desirable Criteria:

Demonstrable experience of media engagement

Experience of liaising with stakeholder groups within the constituency and the general public

Demonstrable knowledge of the Member’s key areas of responsibility i.e. Infrastructure and Human Rights
