We have a fantastic opportunity for the position of Relief  Early Years Assistant(s) within our Children’s Centre team based at the Mencap Centre Belfast. The successful candidate(s) would be employed to provide relief hours on a 0 hour contract.

Mencap's Children Centre is the only place of its kind where very young children with a learning disability and their parents can get specialist help and support.

Mencap Children’s Centre provides a programme of play, therapy, care and education for 2 – 3 year olds with significant developmental delay. The post holder will assist with the provision of a stimulating, caring and therapeutic play environment. Working alongside the multi-disciplinary team, the Family Support team and other professionals, the Relief Early Years Assistant will offer care, learning through play and therapy opportunities to ensure each child can reach his/ her potential. They will work safely and in compliance with our internal and external requirements so that the people we support can trust, feel safe and have confidence in the support we provide them.

The job requires a passionate and caring individual to provide a stimulating environment.to the children we support.

You will have

  • Knowledge of child development 
  • The ability to plan for/ provide a developmentally appropriate environment
  • Childcare qualification at QCF Level 2 equivalent in Child Care, Learning and Development or Playwork, or a relevant occupational qualification (as stated by Daycare Minimum Standards)
  • Experience working with families and children aged 0-4
  • The ability to work positively and co-operatively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • To be able to work flexible hours and committed to supporting children with learning disability 

Please note: The children's centre is operated during term times and employees work 47 weeks of the year. 

Interviews will take place during week commencing 27 January 2020 final selection subject to  provision of suitable references, Enhanced Access NI checks and BHSCT approval.
