NIACRO supports over 3,000 children and / or their families each year. All of these families are impacted by imprisonment or have children who may be ‘at risk’ of risk-taking or offending behaviour. These families tend to experience significant socio-economic disadvantage which is often exacerbated by imprisonment of an adult family member. We have secured resources from the Money & Pensions Service to undertake a Money Support Pilot programme within which our Project Workers will be trained and supported to initiate intentional conversations with families about their financial situation and signpost to specialist supports. The pilot will also identify parents who would be willing to receive financial training: to learn more about managing their own finances better and to build the skills and knowledge needed to share these insights with others who are in similar situations. (I.e. to become a peer supporter).
The Post
The pilot creates two new posts to provide advice and support to NIACRO’s Project Workers and the parents who come forward for training and peer mentoring.
