Volunteering

Positive Futures Lisburn Family Support Service Volunteer

Positive Futures

3.00
Positive Futures Lisburn is looking for volunteers to help with the activities and schemes we run throughout the year. We support young people, aged 8-19, with a learning disability, an acquired brain injury and people on the autistic spectrum.

We like to think volunteering at Positive Futures is an enjoyable and rewarding experience and would like to grow our team of amazing volunteers to improve the service we provide.

What we need from our volunteers:

We want volunteers who are friendly, approachable and enjoy caring for others. This is because some of the young people in our service require assistance in order to access our activities, and volunteers work alongside staff in groups to help make a difference in the lives of people we support. Our volunteers help the children and young people we support to take part in a range of activity, from swimming alongside a young person, to encouraging them to take part in a trip such as snowtubing or trampolining, or even helping them in arts and crafts. If you are enthusiastic about helping young people reach their potential and willing to get involved, we’d like to hear from you.

Where you’d be helping:

We run after-schools actvities during term time that need regular volunteers. These are:

Monday Swim – Helping young people to be in the community and do something physical, this involves being in the pool. (3.15-5pm)

Tuesday Projects – Working with young people as they get involved in projects which can include cooking, music, or filmmaking. (3.15-5pm)

Wednesday Stations – On Wednesdays we provide various stations for our young people to work round, volunteers take young people around the stations and help them to engage. (3.15-5pm)

Thursday Buddy Group – We take a slightly older group out on alternate Thursday nights, varied times, to engage in the community and encourage a social life for those who may struggle to engage with friends without support. This can consist of bowling, cinema, shopping or trips to Police Stations and sensory rooms.

We also run trips over school holidays, primarily Summer, Halloween, Easter and Christmas. Previous trips have included: bus tours, mini golf, walks, museum visits.

Volunteers can help with either Scheme trips or After-schools, and the level of commitment is entirely based on how much time you would like to spend volunteering.

What our volunteers gain:

We hope that volunteers get a rewarding experience making a difference in the lives or the young people we support and enjoy meeting new people. On top of that volunteering with can provide you with new skills, experience and confidence that could be used to enhance your CV or Personal Statement.
