Part-time Psychologist

(11-month contract Oct 2019 – Sept 2020)

The Changing Lives Initiative is a community-based project creating a better understanding about ADHD and providing an intervention programme for families with children (3-7) experiencing behaviours consistent with ADHD.

The Initiative is a cross border project operating in County Louth in the Republic of Ireland, West Belfast in Northern Ireland and the Argyll & Bute Region in Scotland. The project is supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

The Lead partner of The Changing Lives Initiative, Archways, is currently seeking to recruit a Part-time Psychologist to assist with delivery of the project.

Hours: 2 days / 15 hours per week.  Some flexibility as to how working hours arranged.

Location: The main project office is located in Dundalk, Co. Louth.  The psychologist will be required to spend some time in each of the three project locations (County Louth, West Belfast and Argyll & Bute region in Scotland) as required.  We are open to receiving applications from candidates in any of the three locations.

Salary: Approximately €40,000 per annum pro rata (€16,000 per annum,15 hour week)

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Working alongside the lead project psychologist, the part-time Psychologist will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Changing Lives initiative and will be responsible for:

• Delivery of Parent Information and Awareness sessions
• Delivery of professional’s Information and Awareness session to teachers and early years practioners
• Carrying out screening and assessments with families referred to the programme in each of the 3 locations
• Where required, meeting with families to give them feedback on their screening results
• Assessing the outcome/effectiveness for individual families of the IY specific treatment intervention for children with this designated disorder.  Identify families who may need onward referral to other services.
• Contributing to research reports, including for publication, under the supervision of Archways Research and training manager.
• Network and establish relationships with relevant individuals and organizations who engage with children/families experiencing ADHD, and identify opportunities for co-operation
• Keep abreast of relevant developments at a national and international level in relation to ADHD
• Assist with the overall communication and administration of the project

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Ideally, the successful candidate will have:

• Relevant third level qualification in the area of psychology
• Post-graduate qualification in relevant area an advantage
• Proven experience in the area of child development; disability or neurodevelopmental disorders
• Knowledge of the Irish /UK CAMHs system
• Excellent writing and communication skills; capacity to explain complex issues simply and clearly in a concise, direct and understandable way for diverse audiences
• Experience of presenting to and/or facilitating group sessions
• Excellent Organisational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with particular reference to working with a wide range of stakeholders
• Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining a highly organised level of accuracy and output; ability to plan and priorities work to ensure that deadlines are met
