Nursery Assistant (Maternity Cover)

Work Time: Monday-Friday

Salary:

18-20:   £5.90                    

21-24:   £7.38                    

25+:       £7.83    

Roles and Responsibilities

To assist the management team with the smooth running of the day care setting by:

• Providing a stimulating and varied programme of play, in order to enhance each child’s abilities; and in a way which ensures the safety and well being of the children at all times.

• integrating with all other staff, to ensure a team working environment.

• Having a detailed and up-to-date knowledge of child development, and be able to demonstrate an ability to relate this to his/her practice.

• Is responsible for safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all children within the Nursery

Essential Criteria

Qualification

• Minimum NVQ level 2/3 equivalent in childcare

· A positive approach to completing training courses and qualifications

Experience, skills, aptitude and knowledge

• 1 year employment in a similar nursery setting

· Enthusiasm for working with young children

· An interest in the care, learning and development of young children

· A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare

· A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities

· Team player

· Ability to observe and assess children

· Record keeping

· Ability to develop good working relationships with parents

· Flexibility including the ability to cope with changing needs and demands

Communication Skills

• Good verbal communication skills

· Ability to communicate with children, parents, staff

· Approachable

· Ability to listen

General

• Reliability and trustworthiness
• Integrity

Desirable Criteria

• First Aid

· Basic Food Hygiene

· Basic Health and Safety

• Safeguarding Course completed
• Ability to work in small teams

· Clean Full Driving Licence

• Access to a car
