Location: At present home based due Covid - Covering all of NI
Salary: Band 4 - £24,000 - £26,000 pro rata
Type of contract: 2 x 37.5 hours & 1 x 30 hours
Duration: Fixed-Term Contract 31st March 2022, with possible extension

The Mental Health and Money Advice Service is the first UK-wide service to address mental and financial health together. We aim to stop the spiral of debt and mental health issues by providing a one stop shop for information & advice primarily online and by telephone and, where appropriate, provide on-going support and telephone-based casework. MindWise manages this service in Northern Ireland and its partners within the Mental Health UK
The role involves:
To provide holistic money advice to clients who are experiencing both poor mental health and financial difficulties. You will use your existing knowledge and expertise to identify and address a range of issues and provide debt, financial capability, welfare advice and support services to people with mental health issues. You will take on case work when within your remit on both welfare benefits and debt and financial capability issues.
Key objectives for the post:
- Advising and supporting- by telephone- clients, who are experiencing mental health and money problems, their friends, carers, relatives and professionals involved in their care and support
- Identifying and dealing appropriately with emergency situations, both monetary and mental health
- Completing the debt advice process with clients by providing advice on a range of debt solutions and strategies and, where appropriate, providing help and support to enable the client to implement suitable strategies and debt solutions
- Where appropriate, making referrals to other agencies who can provide more specialist assistance
- Being committed to quality advice provision and taking action to address issues with quality as per the internal/ external audit recommendation as well as developments in good practice and framework standards
- Delivering the advice against agreed output, outcome and satisfaction targets
- Ensuring quality case recording in line with regulatory and best practice guidelines
Experience and knowledge required:
- At least 2 years’ recent experience providing money advice (including debt and financial capability) either face-to-face or via telephone
- At least 2 years’ recent experience in providing advice on Welfare Benefits (either via a Welfare Benefits advice service OR as a part of money advice income maximisation)
- At least 1 years’ experience of working with electronic Case Recording databases
- Experience of working with vulnerable clients, particularly people affected by mental illness
- Well-developed IT skills- comfortable using Microsoft Office packages and bespoke databases
- Ability to update and maintain communications on our website
- Familiar with relevant legislation, regulation and guidance covering Welfare Benefits and Money Advice
