Looking for 'Fix-perts' - experts in repairs, DIY, sewing, mending to help with new community project

Repair Cafe Belfast

Repair Cafes are pop up community events run by volunteers, where people can get help to fix their broken things for free. We are looking for skilled amateur fixers to help us get one up and running in Belfast.

Maybe you are a keen sewer who could help people repair tears and zips in clothes? Or an experienced cyclist who could teach people to mend a puncture?  Perhaps you do PAT testing for a charity shop? Whatever your talent, we would love to have you on board.  If it can be broken, we want to help people fix it: small items of furniture, toys, books, small appliances, computers, phones, clothes, soft furnishings, jewellery, bicycles...  Helping people fix their often much-loved but broken items saves them money, cuts waste going to landfill, helps keep repair skills alive and brings people together. You can also pass on some of your knowledge and empower people to fix things themselves.  The time commitment is just a few hours per event and no ongoing commitment is required. We hope to hold our first pilot Repair Cafe before the end of the year, and if that is successful, each month going forward.  We would also love to hear from people who would like to help plan and run these events, help distribute posters, pour cups of tea or help in any other way.
