Learning Disability Pride is Northern Ireland's flagship event celebrating people with a learning disability. First held in Carrickfergus in Spring 2017, this year's event is set to be even bigger and better, and will take place on Saturday 22 June in Carrickfergus. Learning Disability Pride will start with a Carnival Parade to Carrickfergus Castle Car Park where there will be a festival atmosphere with live music, dancing, workshops, arts and crafts , family friendly entertainment and accessible activities. There will also be a marketplace with information stalls, social enterprises, local businesses and food & drink vendors.
We work in partnership with organisations who support people with a learning disability to provide an inclusive, fun event which celebrates learning disability and raises awareness of learning disability, challenges stereotypes and provides an opportunity to develop friendships and relationships. This event could not go ahead without a team of fantastic volunteers to support the smooth running of the day. There are also opportunities to get involved from an earlier stage.
We are looking volunteers on the day with a variety of skills, including help with:
- Set up / take down of event materials
- Event organisation
- Crowd control
- Parade stewards
- Activities support (arts & crafts, sports, workshops)
- Transport
- Health & Safety (including First Aid)
Experience is not necessary.
If you'd like to get involved and have a few hours to spare on Saturday 22 June or beforehand and would like to help us out we would be delighted to hear from you!
Closing date: 30th April.
