As a Qualified Habilitation Specialist you will deliver specialist habilitation (Mobility and independence) services which support Guide Dogs strategic objectives & bring independence and freedom to blind and partially sighted children and young people.

This will include accountabilities such as:

  • Assess the needs and capabilities of children and young people (CYP) with a visual impairment, and produce appropriate training programmes and recommendations as required
  • Plan, implement, and review habilitation programmes
  • Lead, inspire and mentor Trainee Habilitation Specialists, Habilitation Assistants and (as required) the technical practice of other Habilitation Specialists
  • Liaise regularly with other relevant statutory and voluntary agencies in order to support the development of habilitation skills


In your application, you will need to evidence, using specific examples, how your skills and experience meet the criteria laid out in the person specification, within the Job Description below. Requirements include:

  • Nationally recognised qualification in habilitation training for Children and Young people with a visual impairment OR one of the other qualifications listed in the job description (see website)
  • Experience of teaching mobility and independence skills to children and young people with a visual impairment in home, school and community settings
  • Evidence the ability to work safely with children and young people
  • Knowledge of range of resources available to Children & Young People with visual impairment
