The Full time Youth Worker will work alongside the Senior Manager, youth work team and and volunteers in developing and providing a multifaceted youth work provision with key focus on Centre based youth work in Newcastle, Co Down.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To maintain the ethos of the organisation by providing a caring, safe and supporting environment. 
  • Support the Senior Worker and the organisation as a whole, to implement policy decisions and objectives namely the development of a full time youth centre. 
  • Work a maximum 4 nights per week managing and developing the centre based youth programmes and teams including staff and volunteers.
  • Positive and enthusiastically engage with stakeholders and create opportunities for working in collaboration with partners to meet the needs of young people
  • Support the recruitment process and engagement of young people and community through a number of platforms. 
  • Ensure young people play an active role in the centre activities. 
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with young people, encouraging participation and involvement in the planned programme.  
  • To be part of a committed team of workers that is able to identify the formal and informal educational, social, cultural and recreational needs of the young people and plan a programme of positive interventions and innovation, that enhances the knowledge, awareness and the personal development of the young people. 
  • Develop positive relationships with young people that enables the development of one to one support recognising the different needs and starting points of the young people.  
  • Follow all policies and procedures particularly as they relate to safeguarding children and young people and health and safety. 
  • To be a member of the team that encourages the acquisition of accredited opportunities and encourages participation in other initiatives.  
  • Support young people in evaluating youth work activities and identifying the impact of youth work in their personal development.  
  • To articulate and record young people’s progression in sessional and project recording documentation and support Senior Manager in providing information for management and funding reporting. 
  • Take part in relevant training, including but not limited to, Safeguarding, First Aid, Health and Safety training, Continued Professional Development and relevant issue based training.
  • Maintain effective information management, administrative and reporting systems.  
  • Manage quality assurance procedures.
  • Support, when required, the development of Outreach and Detached provision of the organisation, as well as the creation of external projects and activities. 
  • Attend monthly programme planning and training sessions. 
  • Any other duties to meet the outcomes and outputs for the centre.
