Volunteering

Finance Volunteer (Mid Ulster)

MS Society NI

Finance & Accountancy
.Our Finance Volunteers manage the local group’s finances to make sure that funds are spent according to our charitable objectives.

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Mid Ulster Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

We are a small but active and welcoming team of volunteers who provide support to local people living with MS. We do this through support volunteers and a monthly coffee meetup for people living with MS in the Terrace Hotel in Magherafelt, Information events, seasonal outings and Christmas dinners, grants provision, and exercise taster sessions. We also hold fundraising events to help to provide the support needed and monthly team meetings to organise and plan our activities.

Your role as finance volunteer within this team is very important. You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.

This role is what you'd like to make of it. The opportunity to connect with other people, to volunteer in a friendly and supportive team and to make a real difference to people living in the Mid Ulster area by the support you are helping to provide together with your other volunteers.

We estimate that this role needs around 1-2 hours per week of your time. There is also a monthly team meeting where a finance update is given from our easy to download report for the group, also updating the statements online regularly on the super easy to use system. There are also opportunities to get involved with the team's events during the year and with money counting afterward where necessary.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a large charity, develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be comfortable with figures, preferably with an accounting or business background.

It would be great to welcome a friendly, enthusiastic, diligent person to join our Mid Ulster team in this role. Someone who enjoys being part of a team, can communicate with other team members, is happy to get involved and who is motivated to monitor and update the account as required and raise any ideas, thoughts or concerns.

You’ll need to live in the Mid Ulster area to carry out this role.

The MS Society is committed to promoting diversity. We can only offer roles to over 18s.
