Brighter Futures Project Overview

 

Brighter Futures is a family support project covering the Fermanagh area which aims to help families with a child between the ages of 0–12 that has a disability.

 

The Brighter Futures project can help to:

 

·       Connect with the local community to find local supports

·       Make plans for the future of the family

·       Get answers to issues that are faced by the parent of a disabled child

·       Find others who have faced similar issues and share experiences

·       Get a breather!

 

The Brighter Futures Project does this through:

 

·       Providing some practical support to get started

·       Helping to make plans for the future of the family

·       Advocating on behalf of the family

·       Arrange social events for all the family

·       Work with brothers and sisters to help them cope better

·       Supporting the child to take part in activities within their community

·       Giving the opportunity to meet other parents

 

Shortlisting criteria 

 

1.    Evidence of closely supporting families or individuals through challenging events, for a minimum of two years on a professional basis

2.    Experience of advocating and negotiating on behalf of families

3.    Ability to travel independently[1]

  

Positive Futures reserves the right to enhance shortlisting criteria if necessary

 

Requirements of the post 

 

Experience of:

 

·       Using / knowledge of Person Centered Planning & thinking tools  

·       Representing people who experience disadvantage  

·       Community networking and partnership working  

 

Ability to:

 

·       Establish and maintain good relationships with parents and children

·       Work with groups of parents and children and adults we support

·       Communicate and present information effectively both verbally and in writing

·       Advocate and negotiate effectively

·       Manage / resolve conflict  

·       Make decisions and prioritise and manage own workload

·       Develop innovative and creative solutions to ensure stakeholder engagement and Service delivery

·       Analytical skills to enable the interrogation and comprehension of complex information

·       In line with NISCC Regulations, it will be a requirement of the post to register with NISCC
