Family Support Worker FSW19
Post: Family Support Worker - Permanent
Hours: 25hrs per week (40 Weeks/annum)
Hourly Rate: £9.29 to £10.74 per hour
Responsible to: Family and Community Liaison Co-Ordinator
Reporting to: Senior Family Support Worker
JOB DESCRIPTION
The post holder will support families who have a child with disability through one to one home based support and through the delivery, organisation and facilitation of group training and information sessions.
Additionally the post holder will deliver programmes to all families within the project.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES
- To consult widely on the needs of families who have a child with a disability and live within the catchment area to determine what support, information and services are needed.
- To carry out planned home visits to families, providing intensive support, for a time limited period.
- To support the assessment process and design and deliver individualised developmental programmes.
- To contribute to developing and implement activities/services that will support children and families, particularly those who have a child with additional needs and help parents to develop the skills to nurture positive interactions with their children enabling children to reach their full potential.
- To develop an understanding of the Sure Start ethos and to respect, be sensitive to and supportive of parents and children and other partners involved in the project.
- To develop and sustain collaborative links with other agencies, colleagues and parents in order to foster high quality and integrated provision for families.
- To keep written records, and produce reports in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
- Maintain effective on-going evaluation and reviews of service provision.
- To maintain an inventory of resources and be responsible for maintenance of same.
- To provide information to individuals or groups, in an accessible and user friendly way.
- To promote all ABBEY sure start services to families within your area.
- To encourage parents to engage in personal development and other ABBEY Sure Start programmes.
- To refer parents to appropriate relevant statutory and voluntary agencies if required.
- To undertake necessary induction and ongoing training required for the post.
- To resource appropriate materials as required within the role.
- To work closely as a member of the ABBEY Sure Start team and where appropriate support all partner agencies.
- To adhere to all ABBEY Sure Start policies and procedures.
- To undertake all other reasonable duties that the project manager/management committee consider to be appropriate in ensuring the success of the project

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria
Qualifications and experience
- Experience of providing support to individual families with children with a disability.
- Experience of providing advice and information.
- Be able to organise and complete tasks and projects using software programmes such as Microsoft word, excel and Microsoft outlook.
Knowledge and understanding
- Knowledge and understanding of child development
- An understanding of the needs of the child with disabilities
- An understanding of the needs of families with children with disabilities
- To be aware of and understand safe guarding guidelines.
Skills and abilities
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Ability to engage positively with parents and children.
- Ability to use initiative and work alone in an unsupported environment.
Desirable criteria
- QCF level 3 in Early Years Care and Education or equivalent.
It is essential that the person meets the travel requirements of this post. It will involve travelling within the ABBEY Sure Start area and beyond.
