In response to COVID Damask Community Outreach is launching a project to provide support to those feeling more isolated and lonely who have not been able to embrace data technology / the internet/ smartphones, and to create opportunities for safe ways for them to interact, meet their friends and improve their mental and physical health and well-being.
We currently have funding to employ a Session Worker with good inter-personal skills, particularly with the elderly, and sufficient expertise and knowledge of setting up and using the internet, laptop and tablet computers and smartphones to be able to guide those lacking in any knowledge and understanding in how to use these, in a way that is helpful to them and safe. If possible within the regulations we will include socially distanced informal ‘Drop-in’ training sessions in the Seymour Street Methodist Church Halls.
The post will initially be for three afternoons per week working a total of 10.5 hours per week for 12 weeks starting in early January 2021. The post may be extended for a year or more if the project is successful and further funding which has been applied for is secured.
Candidates for the post will be asked to provide evidence of previous community involvement with senior citizens and that they have appropriate skills in setting up and using internet connections and computers.
